Authorities have dropped a charge against David Fuller, 63, from Yeovil, who was arrested during an anti-immigration rally in Weymouth last August. The decision has raised questions about policing priorities and the treatment of ordinary citizens voicing concerns about immigration.

The Rally

The demonstration in Weymouth was part of a wave of nationwide protests highlighting public frustration over government immigration policies. Protesters argued that local communities were being ignored while immigration numbers surged.

Police presence at the rally was heavy, and critics say this showed a disproportionate effort to stifle dissent rather than ensure safety. Fuller was among those detained in what supporters describe as an unnecessary and politically motivated crackdown on free expression.

Legal Proceedings

Fuller was due to appear in court in November but did not attend. Despite this, prosecutors have now dropped the case, effectively acknowledging that there was no basis to proceed.

For many observers, this outcome underlines how flimsy the initial grounds for arrest were. “If there was a genuine case, it would have gone to trial,” one supporter commented.
