Weymouth to Mark Holocaust Memorial Day with Annual Service at Radipole Park
Weymouth Town Council will host its annual service to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on Tuesday 27 January, at Radipole Park and Gardens.
The service will begin at 10.30am at the Holocaust Memorial Tree, located near Alexandra Bridge, and will be hosted by the Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Caroline Nickinson. Members of the public are warmly invited to attend.
This year’s national theme, “Bridging Generations,” encourages reflection on how the lessons of the Holocaust and more recent genocides are passed down, remembered, and acted upon by younger generations. The theme highlights the importance of listening to survivor testimony, preserving memory, and ensuring that hatred, prejudice, and persecution are challenged wherever they appear.
Holocaust Memorial Day is observed each year on 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and commemorates the six million Jewish people murdered in the Holocaust, alongside the millions of others killed under Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides.
Weymouth’s service offers a moment of collective remembrance, reflection, and solidarity, reinforcing the message of “We Remember” within the local community.
