Emergency crews are dealing with a fire at a commercial premises in Abbotsbury, prompting a road closure in the village.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that firefighters are currently working alongside colleagues from Weymouth Fire Station and Dorchester Fire Station to manage the incident safely.

In a statement issued earlier, the fire service said the road through Abbotsbury has been closed to allow crews to operate and to ensure public safety. Residents and motorists are being advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes while the incident is ongoing.

The fire involves a commercial property, though no further details have been released at this stage regarding the cause of the blaze or whether there have been any injuries. Firefighters remain on scene, with appliances positioned to contain and extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading.

Dorset News received a statement from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service:

“We were called to a commercial premises on Rodden Row, Abbotsbury at 7.26am today (14 January) for a fire in the roof. We currently have crews in attendance from Weymouth (x2), Dorchester (x2), Bridport and Lyme Regis, with an aerial ladder platform en route to enable the roof tiles to be removed. Six breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and a main jet are in use. No injuries have been reported. The road is closed due to the number of appliances, and local residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed due to the smoke. The cause of the fire will be investigated when it is safe to do so.”
