Tuesday, September 30th marked a standout day for Openreach engineers, as they took their dedication from your internet to the environment during a meaningful Volunteer Community Day a beach clean between Bournemouth’s iconic piers.

This wasn’t just any meet-up — it was a powerful display of what the Openreach engineer community is capable of beyond their everyday roles.
Organised in collaboration with Inclusion Allies, the event brought together volunteers who traded cables and circuits for litter pickers and gloves, stepping up as protectors of our coastline and wildlife.
Engineers Turned Eco-Champions Volunteers met at 10 a.m. and quickly got to work clearing rubbish, plastic, and waste from the beach, helping preserve the marine environment for generations to come.
The same reliability and commitment Openreach engineers bring to keeping the UK connected was on full display on the sand.
A Well-Earned Break After the clean-up, the team gathered for a well-deserved lunch with sandwiches and hot or cold drinks. The catering was inclusive, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, ensuring everyone felt welcome and appreciated.

Sustainable & Supportive True to Openreach values, the event encouraged eco-conscious travel with car-sharing options and free parking at the Bournemouth Exchange.
While this was a voluntary event with no claims for travel or parking, the turnout was proof of the community spirit that drives this workforce.
