Local drivers and commuters are being warned of significant disruption to one of the key transport links between Weymouth and Portland next year. Ferry Bridge on the A354 — a critical route for residents, businesses and visitors — will be partially closed for essential repairs from 19 January through early March 2026. During this period, traffic will be reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by signals, while pedestrians and cyclists may experience delays due to footpath closures. Heavy vehicles exceeding legal limits will be restricted from using the bridge for the duration of the works.

The repairs are necessary to address structural damage discovered beneath the surface of the bridge, and local officials have stressed that early action will help prevent more extensive closures in the future. Regular updates are expected throughout the project.
