Kallum and Jake from Dorset News were out on the beat in Weymouth last night, working alongside Air 107.2 to capture the atmosphere in the town as the festive season approaches.
The evening began at the Tinsel Tavern on Great George Street, where there was a lively crowd enjoying a night out. Inside the venue, Kallum and Jake spoke to people about their plans for Christmas, asking one simple question: what are you doing over the festive period?

The responses highlighted just how varied people’s plans are. Some said they were looking forward to staying local and spending time with family, while others shared more ambitious plans, including a trip to New York. Many agreed that being with loved ones was the most important part of Christmas for them.
From Great George Street, the team continued through the town centre before heading towards the seafront, where they noticed a police van responding with its blue lights and sirens to the Pavilion. From what could be seen and heard at the scene, it appeared officers were responding to a reported fight linked to a bingo event. The situation appeared to be dealt with quickly, and the team moved on as the evening continued.

Along the seafront, Kallum and Jake spoke to more people enjoying the night-time atmosphere, again asking about Christmas plans. Among those they met were visitors from Birmingham, who said they were visiting Weymouth to spend time with family and enjoy a change of scenery over the festive period.

They also spoke to some Police Officers on patrol and asked them the same question, and you can hear their responses on Air 107.2 over the next coming days!

As pubs and bars remained busy, the team also spoke with door staff at several venues. They discussed the challenges of managing busy nights, especially in the run-up to Christmas, and the important role door staff play in keeping everyone safe and ensuring people can enjoy their night responsibly.
Later in the evening, Kallum and Jake paid a visit to Safe Space Weymouth, a local initiative that operates on busy nights in the town. Safe Space provides a place of support for anyone who may feel vulnerable, unwell, or in need of assistance during a night out. Staff and volunteers offer water, a calm environment, first aid where appropriate, and help with getting home safely, working alongside venue staff and emergency services to reduce pressure on the police and ambulance service.
Safe Space plays an important role in Weymouth’s night-time economy, offering reassurance to revellers and their families and helping ensure the town remains a safe place to enjoy a night out.
More from Kallum and Jake’s night on the beat will be heard on Air 107.2 over the coming days.
