Thousands of residents and visitors are expected to descend on Weymouth Beach this Wednesday, November 5, for the town’s much-loved Bonfire Night and fireworks display, organised by Weymouth Town Council.
The event, a highlight of the seaside town’s calendar, will see the bonfire lit at 7:40 pm, followed by a grand firework display at 8 pm, launched from a vessel anchored out in Weymouth Bay.
From 5 pm, the Esplanade and promenade will come alive with the smells and sounds of sizzling food stalls and festive chatter. Visitors can enjoy wood-fired pizzas, traditional fish and chips, pancakes, coffee and more, provided by local traders including Fire House Pizzeria, Coffee Guys and J & T Catering.
As the sky darkens over the bay, the bonfire’s warm glow will serve as a focal point before the fireworks illuminate the harbour — their reflections dancing across the water for one of Dorset’s most picturesque November displays.
The Town Council is encouraging visitors to walk, cycle, or use public transport, with the event expected to draw large crowds. Bus services 1, 2 and 10 will run through the evening, while motorists are advised that Pavilion Car Park will be partially closed, with additional parking available at Swannery Car Park.
Following the fireworks, attendees are reminded to use the Esplanade underpass and pedestrian crossings to ease congestion and ensure safety.
The council says the event remains free to attend and represents “the very best of Weymouth’s community spirit.” Previous years have seen tens of thousands lining the beach, with visitors praising the seaside setting as the perfect backdrop for Bonfire Night.
“It’s always worth it,” said one regular visitor. “The reflections on the water make Weymouth’s fireworks unique — it’s not just a display, it’s an experience.”
