Emergency Response Off Portland: Three Paddleboarders Rescued After Getting Into Difficulty

An emergency response was launched off the coast of Portland this evening after multiple 999 calls reported three paddleboarders in difficulty shortly after 5:00 p.m.

HM Coastguard confirmed that rescue teams from Portland and Wyke were dispatched to the scene, along with the Weymouth RNLI lifeboat and a coastguard helicopter, following reports of the incident.

One of the paddleboarders, who had become separated from his board, managed to swim to shore and was assessed by coastguard rescue officers. The other two were located and brought safely to shore by the RNLI lifeboat crew.

None of the three individuals was wearing life jackets at the time of the incident. All were checked over as a precaution and provided with important safety advice before being allowed to make their way home.

HM Coastguard is reminding all water users of the critical importance of wearing life jackets and checking conditions before heading out. The swift response by emergency teams helped ensure a safe outcome in what could have been a serious situation.
